Gesha Village
Gesha Village in Ethiopia is operated by Rachel Samuel and Adam Overton. Their journey began while producing a documentary on Ethiopia’s extraordinary coffee, an experience that sparked a deep passion for the country, its people, and its coffee industry.

Soon after, they traveled to the San Francisco Bay Area to study under Willem Boot, a renowned coffee educator famous for his dedication to the Geisha variety. Under his guidance, they learned the fundamentals of coffee cultivation and quality-focused evaluation.

With this knowledge, they set out to launch a new coffee-growing venture dedicated to Geisha. They ultimately discovered land in Bench Maji, an untouched area that offered a rare opportunity to build a coffee estate from the ground up. This land also provided a truly unique environment—located close to the Gori Gesha Forest, the birthplace of the Panama Geisha variety discovered in the 1930s.

Processing

  1. Cherries are harvested at a Brix level of 22-24.
  2. After harvest, the cherries are washed and density-sorted by flotation.
  3. Following 8 hours of aerobic fermentation, the cherries are spread on African beds, covered with mesh, and sun-dried for 24 days, reducing moisture content to 10.5%
  4. The coffee is then stabilized for 16 days in GrainPro bags.

Gesha 1931
A cultivated variety selected from wild trees growing naturally in the forest. Plants closely resembling Panama Geisha were chosen based on tree structure, bean shape and size, and cup profile, preserving the genetic and sensory characteristics that define this legendary variety.
